The Mekuti Balance Harness is the central element of bringing a dog's awareness to its balance and so help it walk without pulling.
The harness features a number of rings to either attach or feed the Mekuti Double-Ended Lead through to make the required secondaryy contact to bring the balance awareness in the most gentle and kind way for the dog. It is also the way that enables the least amount of effort for the handler.
This means that instead of pitting one's strength and will against the dog, the handler uses very subtle movements of the hand to influence and adjust the dog's position and direction.
The handler does not use 'force' to do this but instead gives 'signals' to which the dog responds. The handler does not have to be 'stronger' or more 'wilfull' than the dog because the method only requires making gentle contact. There is no battle of who is the alpha or the boss in the relationship.
Instead, it is a relationship of co-operation, connection, and respect regardless of the relative size or age between handler and dog.
The harness is designed to as light as possible to allow for the least amount of effort required by the handler to make contact and adjustments to the dog's positioning and shift in balance.
The heavier the equipment, the more the handler has to overcome to initiate the response from the dog to the handler's actions. Nevertheless, the material, the rings, the locking clasps on the Mekuti harness, and the trigger hooks on the Mekuti leads are all designed to be as robust and strong as they need to be, should the dog continue to pull or lunge.
If the dog does continue to pull when out walking, the harness may start to show signs of wear, so must be kept clean and in good condition by regular washing and perhaps protective treatment of the metal parts. This is especially important if the equipment becomes regularly wet, muddy or used close to the sea.
